SMITHFIELD — A new gathering place is ready to welcome the community! The Downtown Smithfield Development Corporation (DSDC), in partnership with the Town of Smithfield, Johnston County and the Johnston County Visitors Bureau, is excited to announce the completion of the new library pocket park — and it’s time to celebrate!
The community is invited to join us on Tuesday, August 11, at 11 a.m. for a special park dedication and celebration. During the event, we’ll officially unveil the park’s new name and honor the person whose creative suggestion was selected as the winner.
Guests will also have the opportunity to check out the park’s fun new mural, snap a picture, meet the team and community partners who helped bring this project to life and enjoy a refreshing popsicle while spending time in the new space.
This new pocket park is designed to create a welcoming place for residents and visitors to pause, connect and enjoy Downtown Smithfield. Located on the corner of 3rd Street and Market Street, by the library, the park adds another inviting public space to downtown and represents what can happen when community partners come together around a shared vision.
“We are so excited to finally share this space with the community,” said Heidi Gilmond, Executive Director of the Downtown Smithfield Development Corporation. “This project has been a true team effort, and we can’t wait to celebrate the people and partnerships that helped make it happen. And, of course, we’re excited to finally reveal the name!”
