Downtown Smithfield 1-Mile Loop
0.925 miles
Just under one mile, this loop takes you through the core of the Downtown Smithfield historic district.
 
1.188 miles
At just over a mile, this loop takes you from one end of Market Street to the other.  We'd recommend going from the Neuse River to Bright Leaf Boulevard on one side of the street, and making your return on the opposite side of the street.
 
Downtown Smithfield Walking Tour
1.449 miles
The Downtown Smithfield Walking Tour begins at the Johnston County Heritage Center and includes 19 featured stops outlining the history of the town, which was founded in 1777.  Walk along the Neuse River, through Downtown Smithfield and the adjacent residential neighborhoods, the North Smithfield and Brooklyn Historic districts,  and enjoy the variety of architectural features of the homes, churches, and businesses. The walking tour is a great excursion for school groups, so please check with the Heritage Center for information on a guided tour.

Downtown Smithfield Brooklyn Historic Residential
1.798 miles
This route begins at the former Smithfield High School and winds its way through the Brooklyn Historic District.
 
1.924 miles
A simple loop, this route begins on the Neuse Riverwalk and Buffalo Creek Greenway, then comes back downtown through the North Smithfield Historic District via N. Second Street.
 
2.140 miles
This route highlights some of Smithfield's most historic homes in the Brooklyn and North Smithfield historic districts.
 
2.375 miles
This route begins on Front Street along the Neuse River, where Smithfield got its start, and meanders through the North Smithfield Historic District and downtown, ending back at the river.
 
This route begins on the Neuse Riverwalk and Buffalo Creek Greenway, then meanders through the North Smithfield Historic District and Downtown Smithfield.
 
Downtown Smithfield East Smithfield Loop
4.026 miles
This route begins along the Neuse Riverwalk and Buffalo Creek Greenway, continues through the North Smithfield Historic District and the heart of downtown, through the Belmont neighborhood, to Smith Collins Park, and through the southernmost section of the Brooklyn Historic District.

Downtown Smithfield Neuse Riverwalk/Dog Park Loop
4.477 miles
This route begins along the Neuse Riverwalk and Buffalo Creek Greenway, passes through the North Smithfield Historic District and the heart of downtown, through South Smithfield to the Second Street Dog Park, then back downtown.
 
Downtown Smithfield Community Park Out & Back
6.718 miles 
This route follows the length of the Buffalo Creek Greenway from its start at the Bob Wallace Jaycee Kiddie Park in Downtown Smithfield to Smithfield Community Park, continues on the trail around the park, and then returns downtown via the greenway.
