Our small businesses need your support!  In the coming weeks, the restaurants, shops, salons, entertainment venues, and other small businesses that call Downtown Smithfield home are going to see a decline in visitors.  They need our support now so they'll be around once the COVID-19 outbreak is over.  Our small businesses need you!  Their employees need you!  Our community needs YOU to support our businesses, the ones that make us Smithfield!  Here's how you can do your part to keep #SmithfieldStrong!

  • Unless you are exhibiting symptoms, there is no reason to avoid daily activities, like working, going out to eat, or shopping!  Local businesses are working even harder than normal to earn your business by ensuring that their stores and restaurants are clean and safe for their customers and staffs!
  • Commit to spending money in at least one small business every day for the next thirty days!  And you can win $100 Downtown Smithfield Dollars by participating in our Instagram giveaway!
  • Buy gift cards or gift certificates from businesses now to use later - online, on their website, or give them a call and ask if they can take your order over the phone and keep your gift card until the next time you come in!
  • Order ahead by phone or online for pick-up or curbside service.
  • Buy gifts now to give later - birthdays, Christmas, Mother's Day, Father's Day, graduations, anniversaries, teacher gifts, Valentine's Day, or just because!
  • Order delivery - some of our restaurants already offer it, and others may consider adding it as the need arises.
  • Spring Break plans changed? Make it a staycation instead and be a tourist here in Smithfield!  The Ava Gardner Museum is incredibly well done and has an impressive collection!  The Johnston County Heritage Center's current exhibit about Johnstonians and World War II is fascinating!  Try out the restaurants you haven't yet!  Take an afternoon stroll through downtown and pop into the shops that you haven't visited!  Go for a bike ride or walk on the greenway!
  • Buy online! Some of our businesses have websites or sell through their social media accounts.
  • Leave good reviews for businesses on places like Google, Facebook, Tripadvisor, and Yelp!
  • Promote local businesses on social media - tell the people in your social network about your favorite small businesses, why you choose to support local businesses, and encourage others to do the same!  Make it easy, and share posts from our Downtown Smithfield social media accounts: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter.

In order to prevent the spread of germs, we encourage you to follow these best practices:

  • Please wash your hands with soap and water for twenty seconds.
  • Don't touch your face.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Don't go out in public if you have any symptoms.
